Assembling the SingStand 2 is a snatch even without instructions (15 minutes tops), and breaking it down is just as easy, making it more portable than many other karaoke machines on the market.

As you would expect, the SingStand 2 includes all the features of the SingStand 1. One useful feature is the built-in auto voice controls (AVC) which automatically amplify vocals to balance out with the music.

It also features a handy Mute option which lowers the lead vocals, allowing your voice to take the lead. An echo effect can also be added to spice things up.

[wp-review] PROS:
Easy to use; Very portable

CONS:
Sound quality of microphone is only average; Volume at maximum level may cause distortion

The built-in speakers are powerful enough to project to rooms of most sizes and can also be used as a normal speaker to play mp3s when you’re not singing.

Regarding inputs, the Memorex MKS-SS2 SingStand 2 includes an additional microphone input to sing duets, an instrument input to provide music accompaniment, and a universal line-in to connect to devices with headphone jacks (e.g., smart phones, mp3 players, tablets, etc.)

Most concerns customers had with the original SingStand 1 model have been addressed by Memorex:

  • The stand has been redesigned so that it now firmly secures devices in place while you’re reading lyrics and singing into the microphone. This is an important upgrade because several owners of the SingStand 1 complained about damaged iPhones and iPods after accidently knocking them off the stand.

  • The stand can now also accommodate tablets in addition to smaller devices (the SingStand 1 was released prior to the launch of the original iPad and so the demand to accommodate tablets was less).
  • The microphone holder is sturdier (in contrast to the flimsily constructed and breakable SingStand 1 microphone holder).
  • The speaker wattage of the two built-in speakers has increased from 4 to 5 watts, making them louder and more powerful. It should be noted, however, that the volume tends to distort when it’s pumped up to the max.
  • The microphone and music volume now have independent settings to make adjustments.
  • An 11-inch line-in and 7-inch line-in cords are included to plug in your devices (the SingStand 1 only included a standard microphone cord which customers weren’t pleased about).

Based on this list, it’s clear that Memorex listened to their customers’ feedback and went ahead and implemented many of their suggestions. The end result is a no-frills karaoke machine that’s easy to use, good looking, and portable. For basic needs, the Memorex MKS-SS2 SingStand 2 Home Karaoke System should serve you well.
